Why You Should Consider Calling Decatur HOME:
By Guest Blogger: J. Trogstad
As I sit inside Dancing Goats on a Tuesday morning smelling the sweet aroma of freshly brewed coffee and watching the local hustle-and-bustle around me, I am quickly reminded why moving to Decatur is an exciting consideration.
My first thought as I look through the coffee shop window is the number of amazing things to do in this town. From the award-winning restaurants, one-of-a-kind shopping, trendy nightlife, and family-friendly (and dog-friendly) parks and festivals, Decatur has something to offer everyone!
Decatur has a wealth of stores for everyone’s shopping needs. I love shopping in Decatur, with it’s tree-lined streets and eclectic mix of options. On one hand I have tons of one-of-a-kind storefront boutiques to choose from and the other, I have some of the most amazing galleries to gawk at. Feel free to walk or ride a bike to get to and from your shopping destinations, many locals do. Of course driving is an option too if you are doing some hard-core shopping, as I have never found parking to be an issue. I can’t forget to mention the year-round organic farmers market that’s open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, it’s a shopping must!
Decatur’s restaurant scene is always in the news and on social media, with trendy new spots popping up faster than I can keep up with. If you are craving southern food then go to Revival where their fried chicken is a must. If you are in need of a quick sandwich, Victory Sandwich Bar is where you should ride your bike (if they ask you if you would like chips, say “yes”!). And I hear that Revolution Doughnuts is a game-changer, so that’s next on my list. Whatever food mood you are in, Decatur’s got it!
So what does one do at night in Decatur? There is so much to do! I would recommend stopping by Eddie’s Attic or any of the other live music venues in town, like Kavarna, with it’s coffee shop vibe. Maybe after listening to music, you are ready to sit down and relax for a drink at one of the many local watering holes, like The Pinewood or The Iberian Pig (my favorite!).
Familes have so much to do here in Decatur as well. Besides the long list of city parks , trails, and pools, Decatur also offers it’s residents seasonal outdoor concerts and festivals, many of which are family-friendly. Some of my favorite yearly festivals to attend are the BBQ, Blues, and Bluegrass Festival, the Decatur Arts Festival, the Decatur Craft Beer Festival, and the Decatur Wine Festival. And Decatur shows some love for your four-legged friends as well, with it’s three dog parks. Another perk? Many of these fun spots are made easily accessible thanks to MARTA, Atlanta’s public transportation system, which will take you all over the Atlanta area.
So there you have it. Some of my top reasons why I think you should consider Decatur as a place to call home. If you are looking for a fun, trendy, but also laid-back vibe with all the amenities you could ask for, then Decatur is the place for you my friend!
